A collection of rare remixes and interpretations of works by influential American composer Steve Reich. Sourced mostly from SoundCloud, so you’re unlikely to have ever come across them before. Genre skews between danceable to downtempo, with a bit of ambient thrown in for breathing room.

Made by a fan, out of musical homages by fans, inspired by the art of someone who’s very obviously a huge fan of Music-with-a-capitol-M.

I don’t understand Folkstep. I don’t think you do either — which is why it’s awesome!

Allow me to describe Folkstep as what happens when deeply-rooted traditional ethnic music styles get combined with a modern wobbly, bigass-bass dubstep sensibility.. If that sounds good to you, it sounded even better to me! So I combed through 28 pages of Soundcloud search results for ‘folkstep’ to find zebest tunes. We featured it during the first section of a Radio Unpronounceable show. That part proved to be, so I gather, the most popular portion. So give the people what they want… a mixtape!
